The British Judo Association National Award Scheme For Competition Officials

The National Award scheme was introduced to encourage members to participate, and assist in organising competitions by recognising various levels of attainment by competition officials. The categories are:

        1. Timekeeper/Scorer
        2. Competition Recorder
        3. Senior Recorder
        4. Competition Controller

Awards are obtained by written examination and qualifying practical experience.

Cards of authority will be issued to successful examinees.

Courses to prepare for examination and opportunity to fulfill practical experience requirements for the various awards will be organised on an Area basis by the Area Officials.

Area examinations organisers have been appointed by the National Competitions Commission to organise and to invigilate at examinations. (See list below).

Copies of the examination syallbus may be obtained by sending a stamped addressed envelope to your Area Examinations Organiser.

Forms of application for examination should be obtained from your Area Secretary. (Area Secretaries should obtain supplies from Head Office). For the grades:

        • Timekeeper/Scorer
        • Competition Recorder
        • Senior Recorder

Completed forms should be forwarded to the Area Organiser/Examiner.

The Area Examination Organiser will arrange a venue, time and date for the examination, and they will obtain question papers in a sealed envelope from the Director of the Award Scheme c/o Head Office.

This envelope will only be opened in the examination room at the time of the commencement of the examination. At the conclusion of the examination , papers will be collected and in the first instance be marked by the Area Examination Organiser and then returned to the Director of the Award Scheme together with any unused papers, within ONE WEEK.

Failure to return a complete set of papers will invalidate the the examination. Candidates will be notified of the examination results as soon as possible after they have been received and verified by the Director of the Award Scheme.

Please note that to obtain an award it is necessary to fulfill the practical experience requirements before taking the written examination. Please also note that as these awards are National Awards, they are valid in any B.J.A Area and members may attend courses, gain the required practical experience and take examinations in any Area of the B.J.A

Competition Controller's Award:

Promotion above Senior Recorder is by practical assessment and interview with members of the National Competitions Commission.
